This graphic really sums up what’s going on up there in our minds – clutter and not much awareness of the now. In my article about mindfulness recently I wrote about some simple techniques that you can start with if you wanted to practice mindfulness. Many of you asked me for further resources and inquired about meditation for beginners. I wanted to share some of these with you today.
Meditation is like a mental shower. We place so much emphasis on looking after our physical bodies but our minds seem to be neglected. I look at well being as an equal care of the physical and mental state of my being. And meditation is my mental workout. It helps me to be in a better shape for everything I need to use my mind for – studying, being productive and creative at work, troubleshooting, discussions and as a result of a regular meditation practice I became a better friend and a more attentive listener. It is more attractive to people when they see a ‘presence’ about you.
Meditation is all about being present – in the now, here and focused. It is unlike anything you do in life – it’s almost like a game of getting lost in thoughts, noticing that state, bringing your awareness to getting out of your head back to the present moment and if your mind wanders again, you pull it back in line again. Failure is actually part of the success – if you catch your mind wandering then you are halfway there. The whole practice is about trying, failing and starting over again. It isn’t about eliminating your thoughts like so many people think meditation is about.
CHANGE YOUR MIND, CHANGE YOUR LIFE
I am currently reading Joe Dispenza’s book of ‘Breaking the habit of being yourself’ in which he explains the scientific evidence behind neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to re-organise itself by forming new neural connections throughout life as a result of changes in environment, thinking and emotions. In a nutshell, it is scientifically proven that changing your thoughts and habits, can change your brain therefore your reality.
“When you live a life that is greater than your body, your environment, and time – all things are possible. The universal intelligence that animates the existence of all things will both surprise and delight you. It wants nothing more than to provide you with access to all you want. In short, when you change your mind, you change your life.” Joe Dispenza
MEDITATION CHANGES YOUR ENERGETIC FREQUENCY
Most of us embrace the notion of being ‘somebody’. We explain our reason of existence by placing ourselves into the physical world which often times means we extract ourselves from being connected with the quantum intelligence. When we become this ‘somebody’ we get sucked into the materialistic ‘vortex’ and forget who we truly are. The more we are defined by the stress hormones, the more this chemical rush becomes our reality. In this state we are generating lower frequency waves, which include more ‘matter – less energy’ therefore a survival type response. This is the place where arguments, hatred, gossip etc. live.
When we meditate, we calm our mind. We de-stress and detach from anything material. In essence we forget about anything and anyone around us. We vibrate on a higher frequency which means ‘less matter – more energy’ and we enter an elevated emotional state that becomes more attractive to others. Emotions like love, joy and gratitude are higher in frequency and therefore contributing to a sense of general well-being. By meditating you are creating this exact higher-frequency and therefore changing the state of your own well being as a result of that. So why wouldn’t we want to do it, right?
