THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE IDEA FOR THIS PROGRAM
I discovered mindfulness at the beginning of 2015 when I started practicing yoga. Meditation and mindfulness based classes made it easy for me to regularly engage into the practice and start fostering a new lifestyle.
Things started shifting for me since then – I’ve noticed an improvement in my overall well-being. I was able to reduce my stress levels significantly and listening to my body became a lot easier.
The biggest benefit however came over time when I noticed just how much healthier my mindset became. I’ve always been a positive person but I used to worry a lot. Cultivating a regular mindfulness practice and setting aside time for self care helped me foster a more creative life and I started taking more risks every day.
I wanted to create a program that was fun, easy and inspiring so anyone could join in.
A BIT MORE ABOUT MINDFULNESS
For any of you who are reading this right now and are unfamiliar with the concept of mindfulness, check out my previous article ‘How to practice mindfulness’.
One of my favourite definitions of mindfulness comes from the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California: “Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them – without believing, for instance, that there is a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to think or feel in a given moment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune in to what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.”
THE SCIENCE BEHIND ADULT COLOURING BOOKS
Adult colouring books are very popular at the moment and that’s not a coincidence. It’s been scientifically proven that the activity of colouring helps individuals reduce stress and anxiety. It’s also often used to foster better focus and improve creativity.
