I love reading and I am constantly on a ‘hunt’ for a good book recommendation. Last year, when I compiled a list of great books to read in 2016, I didn’t realise just how popular this post will become. So I thought I’ll start a tradition and bring you a similar post for 2017. I have curated 10 amazing book recommendations from women I look up to and admire. Each of these incredible female entrepreneurs run purposeful and wholehearted businesses and support individuals on their path to greatness.

I believe books are a pathway to self discovery – we can dive into them, get answers for questions we’ve been seeking for years and find motivation and courage to try new things. At least I know this to be true for myself. Enjoy xx

This I Know: Notes on Unravelling the Heart / Susannah Conway

One of my favourite (and well-worn) quotes is from Hippocrates: ‘healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.’ That is the essence of This I Know. I have a feeling that placing this book in the ‘personal development’ category might cause the author to squirm, but at the end of the day that’s what this touching memoir-meets-creative-journal does: it helps us to grow. Tracing the steps taken in Susannah’s bereavement after the sudden loss of her partner, we journey through the senses and are invited in each chapter to reflect upon our own healing experiences and to explore our creative expression. To me, this book says: life will be hard but you are strong and it’s not only all worth it, but it can be beautiful every step along the way. One to gift to friends and re-read when the road gets a little bumpy.

Money: A Love Story / Kate Northrup

True story: this book sat on my shelf for MONTHS before I finally read it. Resistance much? I think I’ve made up for it since — I’ve read it at least a few times and am currently listening to the audio version. It’s become somewhat of a personal financial bible and I can say in full transparency that it was THIS book that gave me the tools and perspective shifts I (really) needed to pay off my credit cards, navigate the world of finances being freshly self-employed and to cultivate a loving relationship with money overall. It’s an empowering book, grounded in self-care and tailored specifically to women. An uplifting read — which I can’t say all books on this topic are!

Kate Caddle is a love fueled life coach, speaker and writer. Her purpose is to inspire and empower women to live their truth. Through her online space, coaching sessions and sold out speaking events, Kate helps you cut through overwhelm, fear and stuck stories to truly live an authentically beautiful life. Encouraging you to ask yourself the tough questions, dive deep and take action.

The Big Leap / Gay Hendricks

From the moment I started reading this book I felt a deep shift coming to light. I begun to see the way I behave, my actions and my… gulp… self sabotaging behaviours from a new perspective.

Gay coined the term Zone of Genius, coming from the perspective that we are most of service to the world and ourselves when we do the things that we are best at. But with this, come our own perceived limitations, restrictions and comfort zones. Gay has a beautiful talent for showing us our behaviour patterns from a non-judgemental perspective, as if you’re observing yourself from a-far.

This is one of my all time favourite reads because it was so awakening on my own personal journey, and one of only a select few books whose practices I still implemented daily.

Rise Sister Rise / Rebecca Campbell

Rise Sister Rise is a salute to the goddess within. An empowering resurgence of grounded feminine power, that you can’t help but feel pouring from the pages as you hang off each word. If there has ever been a time to be proud to be a woman, now is it, and Rebecca will show you how. In the past femininity was suppressed, ridiculed and abused, Rebecca takes us on a journey, showing that this is no longer the case.

I can’t help but feel this book has awakened my spirit in a way it hasn’t been awakened before. This book will change the way you view and feel femininity, and it would also make an incredible gift to all the women in your life!

Brittney Carmichael is the founder of Shine School, an online course to help women return to radical self-love and SHINE from the inside, an entrepreneur, motivational speaker, psychic medium, beauty guru, master hairstylist with over a decade experience, and self-love & biz mentor.

Brit teaches women how to SHINE from the inside by breaking free of negative beliefs, letting go of limiting labels, and tapping into creative power so that they can start living the life of their dreams.

Living with Joy: Keys to Personal Power and Spiritual Transformation / Sanaya Roman

This is my absolute favorite book and I recommend it to anyone who will listen! This book is so transformative because it contains so many levels of spiritual knowledge. You can come back to this book at any time and find a new nugget of wisdom. You’ll seriously have “a-ha” moments over and over again. It also has amazing affirmations and journal prompts to help you tap into your power. This book has changed my life for the better and it continues to do so to this day.

Trust Your Vibes: Secret Tools for Six-Sensory Living / Sonia Choquette

This is the first book I’ve ever manifested into my life big time! My intuition literally led me straight to this book one day while browsing at Barnes and Noble. Although I’ve always beat to my own drum and followed that small inner nudge, this book gave me more confidence to TRUST my vibes knowing that they will NEVER fail me. This book will help you awaken your inner guide so you can begin to live in a more peaceful way. I also really enjoyed her book Ask your Guides because that opened a whole new world of communicating with my guides and angels. After asking my guides for signs and receiving physical manifestations of proof, I’m talking to the angels like they are my #1 bestie!

Madison Hedlund is a life coach, speaker, writer, and entrepreneur who helps women own their story, step out of fear and shame and come alive to their most vibrant, confident selves. Known for her soulful spirit both online and in person, she brings authenticity, power, and creativity into all she does. Whether she is working one on one with clients, facilitating a workshop, or speaking to a large group, it is Madison’s deepest desire to see women step up to their very best and truly come alive.

The Dance of the Dissident Daughter / Sue Monk Kidd

I read this book this past summer and it changed everything for me. I had always seen god and faith one way, but I learned a softer, more feminine way to embrace the divine through Sue Monk Kidd’s personal journey to the divine feminine. For those wanting to claim their own unique relationship to spirit, I highly recommend it!

The Compound Effect / Darren Hardy

On the opposite end of the spectrum, this book is all about achieving and living a lifestyle that aligns with your goals. It’s a tad more masculine and all about being intentional with your life every day. Small changes over time lead to big changes in the long run.

Jenna Black is an online business and money mindset mentor. Jenna works with girl bosses who want to grow their self worth and net worth and create more freedom, flow and abundance in their soul-fueled business.

The One Thing / Gary Keller with Jay Papasan

At the time of reading this book I was caught up in bright shiny object syndrome in my business. I was doing ‘all of the things’ but never feeling like I was achieving anything. The One Thing gave me the laser focus I needed to set my goals and work smarter, not harder. It’s been a game changer for me in simplifying my actions and bringing my dreams to life, without the overwhelm. This is perfect for any boss who gets easily distracted or overwhelmed with a growing to do list!

Playing Big / Tara Mohr

This book revolutionised the way I think about fear and showing up in my business. I was always the shy introvert growing up, so starting a business meant I was faced with many challenges around getting visible and going outside my cozy comfort zone. In Playing Big, Tara Mohr brings a new and fresh perspective to understanding our fear and mindset. It has a beautiful feminine energy to it, backed up with practical ways to transform your mindset and really play big in business. This is perfect for any female entrepreneur who feels like they are getting in their own way and they’re ready to step into their power.

This year I loved Melissa Ambrosini’s Mastering your mean girl. A great book that you can pick up daily and click to a page just to keep your mean girl in check. I also refer to it heaps with my clients.

I can’t wait to read Money: A Love Story – our finances and approach to money in general needs an overhaul. 2017 is our year for breaking through some resistance around budgeting and saving.

Sounds like a great plan, Camille. This one is on my ‘to read’ list as well. Abundance is my word for 2017 so figuring out what that means exactly is my mission. All the best with it xx

Rebecca Campbell’s Light is the New Black is blowing my mind and rocking my soul right now. I’m only part way through it but for me, it’s divinely timed guidance to live an intuitive life from a place of love and to never, ever, dim my light out of ego or fear. The book is filled with beautiful reminders that every person and every soul has a purpose and a light to shine in this world. For anyone on the path to “more”, to ‘self’ and to their soul purpose, I can’t recommend it highly enough!

Thanks for sharing your fav, Sarah. I just ordered this book from Booktopia and will be reading it over the Xmas break. Can’t wait to dive in. Choosing love over fear can be challenging sometimes especially when the voice of the ego is louder than anything else. I too struggle with this one sometimes. Enjoy xx

I read Rise Sister Rise and felt so many shifts, I finished it and was completely gobsmacked. It’s definitely a book that I’ll keep coming back to time and time again. It cracked me open and made me feel through the uncomfortable truths I had let build up and slowly take over. I cried at the end, one of the first books to help me see through it all. I totally agree with Kate, it’s a book that every woman needs in her life.

Wow, that sounds amazingly transformative, Mandi. I’ve got this book on my list as well and hope to read it in the coming months – thank you for sharing so candidly about it. Love it.

I am loving Light is the new black by Rebecca Campbell – it has resonated so deeply for me and pulled some (ok a lot) of my heart strings, my spirituality is something that i always hide from most people out of fear of what they may think and this amazing book has helped me to stay true to myself and my beliefs. I also love that i can open it to any page in the morning and the message or quote that i turn to is the message that i needed to hear at that time. My spirituality is something that i always hide from most people out of fear of what they may think

Hi Tegan, thank you so much for sharing your favourite book – for so many reasons what you have shared resonates with me too. I’ve never really been spiritual but in the last 2-3 years I started exploring my spirituality and I found the answers in this exact frame of mind that I’ve been searching for most of my adult life. There is definitely a shift that takes place when you open your mind to the Universe and surrender your control of situations. Thank you again for sharing. xx

This year a very special friend gifted me ‘Daring Greatly’ by Brene Brown. A truly inspirational book which I couldn’t put down. Thank you Jarka, you’re a light in this world xx

Ahhh, you are such a sweetheart. So much love for you, Darling and I am so happy you liked this exceptional book. One of my all time favourite reads. xxx

Rise Sister Rise sounds like a book I need to read. The last two years I changed my life, started living healthy, coming clean about my emotional eating and spoke out about the emotional and sometimes physical abusive marriage I was in. I need to keep on focusing how to empower women to do the same. You see I am an introvert stepping out of my comfort zone and need help to do this as I believe there are more women like me who lives a secret life. We need to change the world one woman at a time.

What a brave share, Elmaret and thank you for sharing your story and the transformation that came as a result of it. I too believe that there are a lot of women in the world that are suppressed and living in a lie. It is incredibly courageous to step outside of our comfort zones and pursue what truly feels good to us. The Dalai Lama said in 2009 that it is going to be the Western Woman who changes the world and I wholeheartedly believe in that. There has never been a better time for us to connect and support each other than right now. I love the connections that I came as a result of the internet and meeting people like yourself is a real privilege. Keep up the great work, Lovely xx

The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. This book has inspired me to open my heart and mind in a light positive way. I have increased my meditation and I have learned how to deeper feel from meditation experience. This has been very good for my soul!

The number one book that’s had the biggest impact on my life is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. That book gave me a complete paradigm shift and was the key to helping me realise how the present moment is all we really have and that suffering mostly comes from regretting/being angry with the past or fretting about the future. It’s been a few years since I’ve read it and my soul is craving a re-read.

Such a goodie, Niki. I too loved this book and ready to re-read again. Have you read ‘The New Earth’ from Eckhart? I revisited this book earlier this year and it spoke to me on a lot deeper level then the first time around. If you loved The Power of Now, you will love this one too. Jx
